Continuous motion
The fastest layer keeps the world in motion through ongoing orbital, particle and waveform activity.
Emergence turns hours, minutes and seconds into a continuously evolving world of orbiting bodies, sine waves, particles, light and energy.
Emergence is a generative macOS timepiece. The clock is not painted onto a background and the motion is not a prerecorded animation. The visual system is generated live and its behavior is tied to passing time.
Seconds, minutes and hours become ingredients in a evolving composition: orbital paths, orbiting bodies, particles, sine waves and changing energy states.
The result still tells time. It simply refuses to stop there.
Emergence treats the passage of time as behavior. Elements orbit, pulse, accumulate, release and transform as the temporal system advances.
The imagery is built from dynamic visual systems rather than a conventional clock face. Geometry, particles, orbital relationships and sine-wave behavior combine into a composition that continually changes while remaining unmistakably Emergence.
Emergence gives different temporal scales different visual jobs, allowing the whole composition to reveal time without reducing it to hands moving around a dial.
The fastest layer keeps the world in motion through ongoing orbital, particle and waveform activity.
The minute gives the system larger structure and creates visible transitions as one temporal state becomes the next.
The slowest layer anchors the system, giving longer cycles a visual presence beneath the faster activity.
Emergence is designed as a visual experience for macOS: something you can glance at for the time, leave running as kinetic digital art, or simply watch when the world catches your attention.
Yes. Emergence is driven by real time, but it expresses that time through a visual system rather than relying on a traditional clock face as the experience.
No. The video above is a demonstration for the website. In the macOS app, the visual world itself is generated live in code and responds to the passage of time.
Emergence can function as a timepiece, an ambient desktop presence and a piece of kinetic digital art. Its purpose is not to make reading the time more efficient. It is designed to make time more noticeable.
The core visual concept is a native macOS experience driven by the Mac and the current time. Final distribution requirements and system specifications will be published with the release.
Compatibility details will be listed when the production build is finalized for release. This page will be updated with the supported macOS version and hardware requirements.
Emergence is being developed for macOS. Release and Mac App Store information will appear here when it is ready.
Emergence is created by Tom Glander as part of an independent body of digital work exploring time, movement, sound and visual systems.
Emergence is coming soon to the Mac App Store. Release information will appear here as the macOS version moves toward distribution.
